Oh my God! My offspring's a CHAV!

Where did I go wrong? I always brought him up with the idea that normality was good, that ostentation was the root of all evil, that consumerism is the death of mankind and life as we know it. But . . .
HE COMES HOME.
He immediately states that our new LCD flat-screen TV is out of the ark (or even before) because it has a screen based on 4:3 ratio.
He then reminds us that he offered us his 16:9 TV to put in our lounge. When I gently pointed out that his TV had a Cathode Ray Tube (these were invented just before the Big Bang) and that the last time I saw a lump that big it was at Stonehenge he played the Chav card by saying that 16:9 was the ONLY format to watch TV in. I fully expected him to retreat into headphone-donning, i-pod listening, Beckham-copying total Chavism - but he just ranted and raved - even showing signs of foaming at the mouth (without a can of Guinness to create the foam!).

A detailed rebuttal as to why the above post is inaccurate and wrongly directed:

LOGIC.

Why buy a new TV in a format which is being phased out of broadcast?

Why buy a new TV which is therefore predertermined as soon obsolete?

Why buy a TV whose resolution can't cope with the extra-resolution 16:9, resulting in pixellation and illegible onscreen text when used to view 16:9 broadcasts?

Why then point out the better definition LCD offers after hearing the above point?

Why store your new flat TV in a space which could house a CRT screen with a longer lifespan in 16:9 ratio, which would cost less?

Why misquote people? I didn't say 16:9 was the ONLY format. I said it's nigh on the only one being broadcast. And most of the channels watched by said parents are, in fact, 16:9 broadcasts.

Beckham-copying? My arse.

iPod? Not likely, mate - a) too expensive b)too much corporate control over output.

And Finally....

How dare anybody holding a can of cider and watching TV whilst arguing without taking their eyes off it call anybody other than themselves a Chav :P

I rest my case.
